Warmups

What is this program about?

Warmups are your introduction to the world of change readiness.

Most leaders recognise that it’s crucial to understand how change affects people and organisations. Leaders develop strategies and count on them being executed successfully. Strategies and their execution create changes that, directly or indirectly, affect many people throughout the organisation.

But change is not a one-way street. People and organisations are not passive or inert when it comes to being changed. They push back, and a significant driver of this pushback is their readiness for change.

The ability to recognise and increase change readiness is a valuable and important leadership skill. This program provides a research-based framework to help you do that.

Where did the program come from?

The Warmups program results from over two decades of research into change readiness by Steve Barlow and his associates. Steve’s PhD research was into the psychology of change readiness and how to identify it. This knowledge and insights from many other academics and practitioners are combined in the Warmups.

For several years, Steve successfully delivered the Warmups to students in the Master of Leadership program at the University of Tasmania’s School of Medicine.

How is the program organised?

The Warmups consist of six lessons that build an understanding of the key concepts. These concepts are:

PATTERNS: recognise the patterns of change readiness and how to promote them in yourself and your teams.

PROCESS: understand how the change process works, how to engage your teams in The Success Pattern, and how to create flow.

ALIGNMENT: align people’s thoughts with the behaviours you want to see in your teams.

THINKING: extend and diversify your teams’ thinking repertoire to build change readiness.

POSSIBILITIES: discover how to become aware of and leverage possibilities to achieve your goals.

COMPLEXITY: tap into the power of complexity to amplify change readiness within your organisation.

What is the difference between the Individual and Group Warmups?

They cover the same topics, but there are some critical differences between them.

The Individual Warmups are the ‘vanilla’ version. They are pre-recorded and the same for all participants, regardless of personal strengths and limitations. Their purpose is to provide information about change readiness—a lens through which to understand it.

The Group Warmups are meant for group participation and are delivered as live events. They are preceded by a group change readiness assessment that allows the delivery to be tailored to meet the group’s needs. The purpose of the group warmups is to provide information, a common language, and an understanding of the concepts. Importantly, it opens the door to group discussion of the ideas and how to apply them in the business context. This allows for fruitful discussions that are unlikely to occur on their own.

Group sessions can be delivered over two full days (consecutive or otherwise) or broken into smaller segments over a longer time.

Costs

The per-person cost for the Individual Warmups program is $1150 plus GST. The cost for up to 10 participants in the Group Warmups program is $4950 plus GST.

Payment plans are available.
